New Year, New You?

I have this thing about New Year’s Resolutions … I don’t like them. Perhaps it’s to do with the messages we are overwhelmed with from our phones and devices and television adds screaming at us to join this weight loss company or do this work out or try this work out. They always seem to be focused more on what’s presented on the outside (weight, size, appearance), rather than what’s on the inside.

I will say, that the older I get (I turned 40 in 2019) the more I move away from that old-school mentality and instead focus on what’s best for me, the human being. So instead of saying “lose X lbs” I say, “pay attention to what nourishes my body.” But more than just nourishing my body, my 2020 goal planning is more about what nourishes my whole self; my mind, my spirit, my soul.

Just because the clock ticks midnight doesn’t mean a magic wand has been waved and all of the things from 2019 are behind us, even though I sure fucking wish it did. Instead, I know that there is work that I need to put in to help make real and sustained positive changes in order to see the outcomes on my goals list. There is work in unlearning the patterns that we’ve grown accustomed to.

It’s like that with magic or prayer too, right? You can’t just work a spell or pray to your ancestors or pray to HaShem to make something happen. Our guides and God(s) want to see us working as well. What efforts are we doing to help Spirit create change? What steps are we taking to get to the right path? Have we taken stock and given thanks and gratitude for all that is abundant in our life or are we continually asking for more.

I have a lot of goals in 2020 and am thankful that planners like the Many Moons Planner and the Jewish Planner encourage a holistic exploration of goal creating. What about you. What are your plans for 2020?
